General Modernizer installs structural grab bars in Nassau County homes. Every bar is anchored to wall studs or 2x6 solid blocking -- rated for 250 pounds of force in any direction, meeting ICC A117.1 and ADA standards. Suction-cup bars and drywall-anchored bars are not safety devices. They fail under load.
Why suction-cup bars fail: suction adhesion degrades with humidity, soap residue, and temperature changes. A bar that held for three months can release without warning under a full body load. Why drywall-anchored bars fail: drywall anchors cannot resist the lateral force of a person catching their balance. They pull through the wall, and the person falls anyway.
The correct installation: locate studs behind tile using stud finders and test probes. If studs are not in the right position for ADA placement, install 2x6 solid wood blocking between the studs. Seal every screw penetration through tile with wet-area silicone. Mount with number 10 by 3-inch structural screws. Torque-test each bar after installation.
ADA placement standards: toilet side wall bar at 33 to 36 inches above finished floor, 42 inches long minimum, 12 inches from toilet centerline. Toilet rear wall bar at 33 to 36 inches, 36 inches long minimum. Shower back wall horizontal bar at 33 to 36 inches. Vertical entry bar 18 inches above threshold. L-shaped or angled bar on side wall for seated showering.
Cost: a standard 3 to 4 bar package runs $450 to $1,200 installed in Nassau County. Same-week scheduling available. Finish options: brushed nickel, matte black, polished chrome, oil-rubbed bronze.
Many grab bar customers discover during the free in-home assessment that their bathroom has additional fall risks. General Modernizer will point these out honestly. If a full curbless shower conversion makes sense, we will explain why and provide a written estimate. If grab bars alone are the right answer today, we will do that and do it correctly.
